"The woman and womanhood are among underlying themes of Kiraly's sculptural exploration," art historian Laszlo Kostyal wrote about Kiraly for his 60th birthday. Kiraly's work contains elements of African art and a study trip across the US in 1968 also left a mark on his work - he moved from classical anthropomorphic to abstract and symbolic sculpture. Culture Ministry State Secretary Damjana Pečnik stressed at the opening in Hungary's capital that Kiraly's art was a bridge between Hungary and Slovenia. Hungarian Human Resources Minister Bence Retvari also praised strong cultural ties between the two countries and noted they were made even stronger through such projects, Slovenia's Embassy in Budapest, which organised the exhibition, stated in a press release. Kiraly was the head of the Lendava Gallery and Museum for 20 years starting in 1973. His works have been exhibited in Slovenia and abroad and his sculptures found home in private collections across North America and Europe. (Source: STA)
