Vienna - Several Slovenian authors are making a four-day visit to Vienna in an effort to promote Slovenia's bid to become the guest of honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2020 or 2021.

Authors Cvetka Lipuš, Ana Pepelnik, Maja Haderlap, Davorin Lenko, Aleš Šteger, Goran Vojnović, and Boris Pahor along with several publishers will be promoting Slovenia in Vienna until 29 April.

As part of the visit, organised by the the Slovenian Book Agency (JAK) and the Slovenian Cultural Centre in Austria, the authors will be visiting two Vienna-based publishing houses, Zsolnay and Folio, JAK said.

On Monday, Lipuš, Pepelnik, and Lenko will be presenting their works and their German translations at the Phil bookshop. On Wednesday, Šteger will be presenting the German translation of his novel Odpusti ("Forgive").

Pahor will take his turn on Thursday in a discussion with the Austrian Literary Society (Österreichische Gesellschaft für Literatur), while Vojnović and Handerlap will be the main guests of a discussion on Friday.

JAK is planning to collaborate with the Slovenian Cultural Centre in Austria and Literaturhaus Wien to organise events on Slovenian comic books and graphic novels.

Slovenia's application to secure its status as guest country at the Franfurt Book Fair has been accepted. JAK hopes that a cooperation agreement will be signed at around 2017. The director of the fair Jürgen Boos will be visiting Slovenia this year.
